POST MOLDING OPERATIONS

SDM offers various value-added, post injection molding operations. These operations are all done in-house at our facilities in Southern California. The operations that we employ include: Spin WeldingHot Stamping, Pad Printing, Laser Marking, Insert/Over Molding, Ultrasonic Welding,   Precision Machining, CNC Machining and Product Assembly.

Spin Welding

When spin welding, the top portion of a round part spins quickly around the secured bottom portion creating a strong frictional heat weld that bonds the two components together.

Hot Stamping

During hot stamping, a heated die presses a colored film over your plastic injected component, leaving behind a colored marking on a specified area of your part. This application is typically used on paper and plastic applications and utilizes a dry image transfer method with pre-dried ink applied with high heat.

Pad Printing

Pad printing is a commonly used technique for marking your product with colorful logos, or words. The technique involves pressing a pad into an ink plate designed in the shape of the desired print, and then pressing that pad onto your plastic injected part and left to dry. The differences between pad printing and silk screening are explained in more depth through the "click here" link below.

Laser Marking

Laser marking is a process where the beam of the laser interacts with the surface of your plastic injected part, slightly altering the chemical properties, and in turn, its appearance. Differences between marking, etching, and engraving are explained in more more detail through the "click here" link below.

Insert/Over Molding

Over-molded inserts are typically metal components that need to be permanently fixed within your plastic injected part. In order to accomplish this, provision is made within the mold for the insert to be placed inside the cavity of the mold and secured during the plastic injection process. Once the plastic has cooled around the insert, the insert is now permanently fixed within the part.

Ultrasonic Welding

Ultrasonic welding is a technique whereby high frequency, ultrasonic, acoustic vibrations are locally applied to components being held together under pressure to create a solid-state weld. It is commonly used for plastics, and especially for joining dissimilar materials. This application can be a viable alternative to insert/over molding.

Precision Machining

Precision machining utilizes CNC technology to accurately machine features in your plastic injected part. This technology is sometimes needed when holes or features are not easy or practical to mold in.

Assembly

Accent Plastics will take your individually plastic molded components and assemble them into a fully functional product. Assembly can occur through snap fits, fasteners, adhesives, welding, or any other post-molding operations detailed on this page.
